Do you cAARd? CEU Program

This online training session includes information on the effects of tobacco and nicotine, the physiology of smoking – especially for people with diabetes, clinical guidelines for tobacco cessation, the Ask Advise Refer intervention for cessation, pharmacotherapy ,and tools and resources. Also provided is an overview of smoking cessation quitlines that provide telephone counseling, featuring the 1-800-QUIT NOW national number.

The self-study program is administered via a PowerPoint presentation with audio commentary.  To begin the program click on the video below to view the PowerPoint presentation in Flash format.  Make sure your volume is on and is loud enough for you to hear the audio overview.  To advance each slide, click on the arrow keys.  To see the filmstrip view in order to jump around among the slides, click on the second button from the far right.  To view in full screen mode, click on the last button on the far right.  The presentation is about 1 hour long.  After viewing the presention, go to the exam link at the bottom of this page and take the post-test in order to obtain CEU credits.

 

 

 

To obtain CEU's, participants must register and complete the program post-test to receive their statement of credit certificate. A temporary certification will be available for download after completion of the post-test; an official certificate will be mailed thereafter.  For more information see the attached program promotion flyer PDF below.

In an effort the increase awareness and referrals for smoking cessation among people with diabetes who smoke the Diabetes Educator Do you cAARd? Taskforce, the California Diabetes Program, the Smoking Cessation Leadership Center, and the California Smoker's Helpline developed this educational web-based program for health care providers nationally. Funding for creation of the Online CEU feature was provided by Diabetes Information Resource Center (DIRC) sponsorship funds, the California Tobacco Control Program, and the CDC Office of Smoking and Health.
