Community-Based Organization

A private nonprofit organization, Indian tribe or tribally sanctioned organization or other type of group that works within a community for the improvement of some aspect of that community.

Advocacy Group

Organization whose primary purpose is to promote, support or advocate a cause or the interests of a cause.

Health Care Organization

An organization providing health care to persons living in California, including Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs), Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs), Fee-for-Service Providers, Community Health Centers, Clinics, Medical Groups, Independent Practice Associations (IPA’s), and Hospitals.

Professional Association

An organization, usually non-profit, that exists to further a particular profession and protects the interests of that profession and of the public.

Private Industry

Those entities which are not controlled by the state - i.e., a variety of entities such as private firms and companies, corporations, private banks, non-governmental organizations.

Quality Improvement Organization

Quality Improvement Organizations are largely not-for-profit, community-based organizations whose mission is to collaborate with providers and beneficiaries to achieve significant and continuing improvement in the quality and effectiveness of health care at the community level.

Educational Institution

A University, College, Community College, Technical/Vocational School, School District, High School, Middle School, or Elementary School.

The office, function, or authority of a governing individual or body.

Funding Agency

Organizations that have funds, process applications for funding, and award funds to qualified applicants.

Support Group

An educational forum that meets on an ongoing basis and provides a frequent opportunity for members to meet, share information, compare experience, and provide mutual encouragement.
