Roger O. Chene, DHS(c), MPH, RD

Area Health Promotion Specialist - Greater Los Angeles Area

Roger is the Area Health Promotion Specialist for the Greater Los Angeles region, which includes the counties of San Bernardino, Riverside, Los Angeles, Ventura, Santa Barbara, and San Luis Obispo. As part of his responsibilities Roger networks with health care organizations to improve the quality of their diabetes care programs, provides education on diabetes and obesity to health care professionals and lay persons, and supports local healthcare collaboratives. Roger, who speaks both English and Spanish, places special emphasis on ethnic groups at high risk for the development of diabetes such as Latinos, African-Americans, Native Americans, and Asian-Pacific Islanders.

Roger graduated from Pacific Union College in Angwin, California in 1998, receiving his B.S. in Foods and Nutrition. Roger then completed his AP4 dietetic internship at Hughley Memorial Hospital in Ft. Worth, Texas and subsequently passed the credentialing exam for registered dietitians. He has since served in several different acute care hospitals as a clinical dietitian. Roger began working at the Bakersfield Heart Hospital in 1999 and then moved to Loma Linda University Medical Center where he served from 2000-2005. In addition to these facilities Roger has also worked at several other Southern California hospitals where he gained additional experience in the areas diabetes education, therapeutic lifestyle changes to reduce risks for chronic diseases, and other aspects of medical nutrition therapy. Roger graduated in June 2006 with his master’s degree in International Public Health from Loma Linda University and began a doctorate program in Health Sciences in Fall of 2006.
